The way of St. James is a catholic pilgrimage whose objective is to go to the shrine of the apostle St. James the Great, located in the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, in northwestern Spain. This pilgrimage has become, over time, a very famous walking route. The way of St. James includes several routes in France and Spain and has been listed as the first cultural itinerary. This walk of more than 1500km offers landscapes of a particular beauty all along the way ; crossing the Pyrenees is a key moment in this journey.
The Tour du Mont Blanc in France, Switzerland and Italy
The tour du Mont Blanc (TMB) is one of the most famous hiking trails in Europe. As the name suggests, this 170km route circles the Mont Blanc and crosses 3 countries : France, Switzerland and Italy. Several alternative routes to the official itinerary were created and each hiker can obviously follow the paths he wants. The tradition still wants the departure to be done from Les Houches in France and to walk anti clockwise. Through passes and valleys, between mountains, forests and lakes, walking from village to village, you will discover landscapes of great beauty.
Hadrian’s wall in England
Hadrian’s wall is a stone wall that was built in 122 AD in England by the Roman Emperor of the same name. This wall of 4.5 meters high and 2.7 meters wide crossing the country from east to west. Today, it is one of the most popular tourist attractions in northern England and is listed World Heritage Site since 1987. The official hiking trail, about 120km, follows that wall whose only some portions are still intact. On the way, you will have the opportunity to visit the fort of Segedunum, it even houses a museum now.
Via Algarviana in Portugal
The Via Algarviana, in Portugal, invites hikers to cross this region of southern Portugal, from east to west. You will have to walk 240km from the Spanish border to the Atlantic Ocean. Following both paths and small roads, you will have the opportunity to see panoramic landscapes, more beautiful the ones than the others. The Serra de Caldeirao and Monchique are the highest points of the itinerary and are very famous for their beauty !
Cinque Terre in Italy
The Cinque Terre in Italy are a group of five small coastal villages connected by a beautiful path along the Mediterranean Sea and offering many magnificent viewpoints. This is only a dozen kilometers that can be done within a day. Enjoy the beautiful landscapes and the charming atmosphere and take the time to stop in the various villages you will cross during your ride.
